Hummingbird cooperation project "Saving the Gorgeted Puffleg"

In 2006, Colombian scientists discovered a spectacular new hummingbird named Gorgeted Puffleg (Eriocnemis isabellae). This species is restricted to a very local range of the western Andes of Colombia, where massive human influence, e.g., by logging and coca plantations, severely threaten the existince of this relic population.

In order to promote further studies on the biology of this bird and other endangered animals and plants sharing the same habitat, as well as to develop new conservation strategies the Brehm Fund has called for donations to ensure the survival of this colourful hummingbird. British writer and artist Joanna Skipwith took attention of this initiative and contributes to save the Gorgeted Puffleg and its habitat. Her colouring- and poem book ’’I'm a hummingbird, I hum...’’, especially designed for children of 7-10 years, informs in an entertaining manner on the hummingbird and other tropical birds. Thus children and there parents will be sensitized for nature conservation aims. For each book copy sold the Brehm Fund will earn 1 £ (ca. 1,10 Euro) for the hummingbird field project; this amount is doubled by the Brehm Fund. Hopefully many copies will be sold to guarantee a successful cooperation and project. The book can be purchased online at  http://www.silverjungle.com/buy/ (ISBN 978-0-9552652-2-8) for only £ 5,99  - a good investment both for buyers and nature conservation. You may also support the project by a specific donation.
